Nobel Laureate Konstantin Novoselov Visits HTP Kyrgyzstan
HTP KR became a platform in Bishkek for dialogue among Nobel Laureate Konstantin Novoselov, physicists, scientists and young academic Olympiad participants.
HTP KR hosted a meeting with an international scientific delegation, representatives of the physics community, and participants of academic Olympiads
Bishkek, October 14, 2026. The High Technology Park of the Kyrgyz Republic welcomed Professor Konstantin Novoselov, the 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics, one of the pioneers behind the discovery of graphene, and Director of the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials at the National University of Singapore.
As part of his visit to HTP KR, an international scientific delegation met with representatives of Kyrgyzstan’s physics and education communities, as well as school students and young participants of academic Olympiads.
International Scientific Delegation
The delegation included representatives of the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials at the National University of Singapore, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, research institutions, and the education and business communities.
The meeting was attended by Professor Konstantin Novoselov, Professor GE Qi, JIN Zhan, ZHANG Shuqi, Professor MU Dong, HENG Liang, ZUO Tingkui, CUI Dexin, as well as Azamat Dikambaev, Director of Epsilon School.
The visit formed part of a broader professional dialogue between the international scientific community and representatives of Kyrgyzstan’s technology and education ecosystem.
Science, Technology and Emerging Research Areas
During the meeting, participants discussed the development of modern physics, promising areas of fundamental and applied research, as well as the role of science in creating new technologies and materials.
Particular attention was given to the importance of international scientific cooperation, knowledge and research exchange, and stronger interaction between research institutions, universities, and the technology sector.
Participants noted that modern scientific discoveries are increasingly becoming the foundation for new industries and technological solutions, while the development of a strong research environment requires closer links between fundamental science, education, and innovation-driven business.
Dialogue with Young Talent
A special part of the program was dedicated to participants of academic Olympiads and young people interested in physics and scientific research.
They had the opportunity to speak directly with Professor Konstantin Novoselov, ask questions, and learn more about scientific careers, current research areas, and the international academic environment.
This format gave participants not only an opportunity to engage with the experience of a world-renowned scientist, but also to better understand the practical connection between fundamental science, technological development, and opportunities for professional growth.
Developing Kyrgyzstan’s Science and Technology Ecosystem
For the High Technology Park of the Kyrgyz Republic, hosting such meetings is part of its systematic work to support the development of the country’s technology and scientific ecosystem.
HTP KR is committed to strengthening links between the IT sector, science, and education, expanding international cooperation, and creating additional opportunities for young professionals, researchers, and technology teams.
The meeting served as a platform for knowledge exchange, professional dialogue, and discussion of new areas of cooperation between the international scientific community and Kyrgyzstan’s technology ecosystem.
Background
Professor Konstantin Novoselov is the 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics, awarded for groundbreaking experiments involving graphene, a two-dimensional material. He currently serves as Director of the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials at the National University of Singapore.
Graphene is a two-dimensional material consisting of a single layer of carbon atoms. It is known for its exceptional strength, electrical conductivity, and other unique physical properties. Research into graphene has become one of the key areas of modern materials physics and has opened new opportunities in electronics, energy, sensor technologies, and other industries.
